After a 20 minute conversation with the SunSentinel reporter, very little of the input I gave was used. What I tried to emphasize was that the major pre-requisites for establishing quiet zones were already in place on the 5 crossings in and near our neighborhood according to the Federal Railroad Administration. Also, that it was not necessary to make improvements to all crossings. It is only necessary to bring the string of crossings within a quiet zone to a score below the national significant factor number. For example, on our 5 crossings I was able, using the Federal Railroad Administration’s on-line calculator for quiet zones to make improvements to only 2 of our 5 crossings to bring all 5 crossings below the national significant factor number and eligible for a quiet zone. I have addressed the above information before the Broward MPO Board, City Commissioners: Dean Trantalis, Romney Rogers and Bruce Roberts. A copy of the information was given to John Bertino, the Community Liaison for County Commissioner, Tim Ryan.
